Richard has magic running through his veins, quite literally, as he followed his father's well cemented footsteps into the world of magic. Also a professional magician, Peter Pinner taught Richard his first trick back in 1980 inspiring him to follow the same career path.
Richard is in great demand by his peers having travelled throughout the USA and to Australia and New Zealand to lecture at magic conferences and corporate events. In April/May 2011, Richard gave several lectures in New York including the exclusive 4F conference. Richard had been booked to premier his new lecture "Half Life" at its 40th anniversary in 2010 but was sadly prevented from doing so by the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud!
Richard's ability as a performer has enabled him to build his experience behind the scenes in both designing and creating magical illusions for stage and screen. Making an actor disappear, float or even burst into flames are just a few of the challenges that Richard has been tasked with. In 2001, The Magic Circle awarded Richard the Cecil Lyle award for best original effect. Visit Richard’s consultancy website, Almost Impossible, to see some of the shows that Richard has worked on.
Richard became a full time professional magician in 1991 and has studied and performed many different variations of magic. Richard is a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star. He was awarded The Magic Circle Close up Magician of the Year in 1999 and became The International Brotherhood of Magicians Stage and Close up Magician of the Year in 2003. As a performer Richard has visited over 30 countries with shows ranging from 4 minutes at a board meeting through to support act for Victoria Wood to cabaret in New Zealand. In September 2014, Richard was awarded The Magic Circle Stage Magician of the Year making him the only magician in the world to have won both Close Up and Stage competitions at both The Magic Circle and The International Brotherhood of Magicians.
